Louise Marie Housing Antwerp
newly built appartments
The Louise Marie residential project location is remarkable in many ways. It is a well-known site in Antwerp, strategically located by the Singel ring road, making it a gateway into the city. This unique location asks for a particular building with a strong identity.
HAVEN OF PEACE
The project consists of 207 apartments and penthouses, distributed across two fourteen-storey residential towers. These two buildings, named Louise and Marie, are different in volume but both supported by a monumental base. The volumes are connected to each other by means of an impressive glass screen.
"This way, the residential project creates a high-quality communal outdoor space sheltered from the wind and noise from the street as well as a generous access and entrance for its residents. Thanks to this glass screen and the roofing of the Antwerp ring road, Louise Marie will turn into a haven of peace on the outskirts of the city." - Patrick Lootens, founding partner POLO Architects
LONG GREEN FINGERS
The apartments were designed to be light and spacious, affording panoramic views of the existing urban context. Orientation, views and the relationship with the environment were key elements in the designing process.
For the landscape development, POLO Architects collaborated with Dirk Vandekerckhove to ensure an optimal symbiosis of the building and the park. The park-like environment, the water feature and the greenery are completely in line with the charisma of the buildings. Like long green fingers, the landscape flows between them, creating a uniform, transparent and open environment.
In line with its interdisciplinary methodology, POLO Architects not only designed the architecture, but also the interior for the common areas and three different interior concepts for the penthouses.
